Haha, last night was the first night I slept soundly in months. I took the day off even. Here's a link to a little painting I made as a tribute to our fine new Prez. Enjoy!: http://goflyingturtle.blogspot.com/2008/11/congratulations-president-obama.html

weeeeeeee! i'm still tickled...

not sure about his selection of emanuel...a longtime supporter of israel's behavior...but i'm hoping that the man won't actually be setting policy...it's time to hold israel responsible for their own actions, and not keep blaming it all on her neighbors.

i knew from the git-go that obama was no true leftist...that's why my original choice was kucinich...but i really hope he is actually left of clinton...more progressive - someone who wants real peace...real justice in the middle east.

I read that Arkansas was the only state in which McCain got a larger percentage of the vote than Bush got in '04. To what do you attribute that fact?

Kev, that's an excellent question. There are those here in Arkansas that are attributing McCain's success in the state to racism, but I don't really buy that. I think there are a number of factors:

1) Obama didn't campaign here at all. There was virtually no campaign infrastructure, and those Arkies who volunteered to help were shipped off to Missouri to try to win that state.

2) The state Democratic Party didn't really get behind Obama until late. Hillary Clinton is well-liked and respected here, particularly by Democrats, and you may have noticed that there was a bit of hard feelings between the two camps. Only when Bill Clinton himself came to Arkansas did the state's governor, lieutenant governor, and senators (all Democrats) start making noises about supporting Obama.

3) It would be difficult for McCain to improve on Bush's numbers in states like Alabama, Utah, Wyoming, and Idaho, where Bush put up huge numbers. In other words, compared to Arkansas, he had nowhere to go but down there.

I thought that Obama would have a chance to win Arkansas, had he put up a fight here. However, there were much bigger electoral prizes out there, and you have to draw the line somewhere.
