Huckabee Suggests an End to the United States of America

Republican Nutcase Presidential Candidate Mike Huckabee has declared his intention to end the secular nation that originated with the ratification of the United States Constitution. According to an article on rawstory.com:
"I have opponents in this race who do not want to change the Constitution," Huckabee told a Michigan audience on Monday. "But I believe it's a lot easier to change the Constitution than it would be to change the word of the living god. And that's what we need to do -- to amend the Constitution so it's in God's standards rather than try to change God's standards so it lines up with some contemporary view."
All that separation of church and state stuff was overrated anyway.

Dude. Living by god's standards (the living god, not that other one), will totally make things better! Just like in teh middle ages. Obviously it's about time his holy messengers got themselves some authoritay.

You're so right, K. I can hardly wait to begin stoning my children and killing all those who wear fabrics made of two kinds of thread!

Ah, I think I figured out this "living god" business. Weldon, ranting well, poses it as "living god vs. dead founders." See the living god isn't all that somewhat contradictory stuff that's written down in all those books--that material has been changing constantly these last three millennia, and couldn't possibly be what it means. The living god is the reassuring voice in your head that's talking right now, telling you that whatever bothers you is damnable, and whatever you think is right has divine backing. The living god sure is a convenient guy to have at your side.

Fuck these people, anyway.

i'm gonna make a fortune. scarves for women...and pretty veils to hide our evil, seductive, come-hither eyes.

apples, anyone?

Cat, you're not really getting into the spirit of this. Huck thinks women are supposed to be good servants and pop out offspring like a vending machine. Anything else is just, um, sinful.

hence the new market for scarves, tents, and other burka-like attire.

ya know there's an upside to huckabee's world...where everything one does is a sin.

It's killing me that this isn't getting MORE coverage. It's not like he's hiding his agenda in any way.

Seems like everyone in the press is somehow enamored of ole Huck. The liberals play up his populism, his "ah shucks" style, seemingly good nature.....

His belief in Biblical creation occasionally gets a mention, where it is treated as a quaint eccentricity that just somehow makes him lovable, and no mention at all of his older pronouncements about quarantines for fags or any similar views.....

I can only hope if (when) he starts looking as though he might actually have a shot at the nomination, the press might actually lood a bit harder.

I had linked to this post at Slate's Faith-Based, and someone there made the observation that the liberal press has been giving him a free ride (generally favorable reports, softball questions etc) in the hope that he does get the nomination -- on the assumption that he would be easier to beat in November.

Personally, I really doubt that as I don't see the so called liberal press as being Democratic party hacks. I think it is more a matter that ole Huck seems to be a likable guy, says funny things, doesn't act like an asshole. And, compared to Romney, he doesn't appear to be a cyborg.

well...he only got 13% of the Florida votes...that's less than Guilliani...

Yeah. I'm pretty sure Huckabee's down to being a footnote. Still, it's important to note his nutcasery, in case he decides to run again in four years.

I'm inclined to believe that it's blog entries like this one that have marginalized Huckabee to "a footnote."

I was amazed at how many folks actually liked the guy. And the press was pretty much giving him a pass...
